Smith Center - Harvey R. Armitage, 95, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Smith County Memorial Hospital, Smith Center, KS.
Harvey was born June 20, 1922 in Kit Carson County, CO, the son of Jacob Kato and Eva Irene (Cochran) Armitage. On August 22, 1954 he married Marjorie Wisehart at the United Methodist Church, Smith Center by Rev. Plot. To this union they were blessed with two children, Terry and Andrea Jean. Harvey was a United States Navy Veteran serving from September 1, 1943 - September 27, 1945 during WWII on the USS Navel Ship, USS Evarts - (DE 5) - Destroyer Escort Ship.
As a young man he did a lot of trapping on his families homestead in Colorado, trapping skunks and other wildlife for their pelts. Harvey built over fifty homes throughout Smith County and loved what he did. Later in life he enjoyed wood working in his shop making windmills, book cases and coffee tables. He also looked forward to taking a drive once a week or more to the Kirwin Reservoir with Ralph and Theresa to see if any wildlife happened to be out.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Andrea Jean Henderson, wife, Marjorie Armitage, one brother, Carl Armitage and two sisters, Hazel and Mildred Armitage.
Harvey is survived by a son, Terry Armitage of Boulder, CO; a sister-in-law, Verline Lewis of Wichita; special friends, Ralph and Theresa Barnett of Smith Center; two granddaughters and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at All Faiths Funeral Chapel, Smith Center, with Pastor Greg Hubbard presiding. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 18, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and until service time Tuesday at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg, KS, with Navy Military Honors. Memorials may be given to The Builder's Club - Smith Center High School and sent in care of the funeral chapel.
