Smith Center - Allen A. Lehmann, 77, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2022, at Smith County Memorial Hospital, Smith Center, KS.
Allen was born December 31, 1944, in Smith Center, KS, the son of Alvin Reinhold Wilhelm and Alma Von (Frieling) Lehmann. On August 17, 1969, he married Gladys O'Connor at St. John Lutheran Church, Athol, KS. Allen was a United States Army Veteran serving from June 22, 1967, to January 24, 1969, when he was honorably discharged. Allen was awarded the Purple Heart on August 28, 1968, for wounds received in action in the republic of Vietnam. He was also awarded the bronze star medal with "V" Device for heroism in ground combat in the republic of Vietnam on July 23, 1968. He was a member of American Lutheran Church, VFW Post 1141 and Smith Center Country Golf Club all of Smith Center, KS.
Allen graduated from Kansas Wesleyan in 1966 and taught 6th grade in Hutchinson, KS for one year only due to being drafted for the Vietnam War. He taught 5th and 6th grade in Portis, KS for two years. After teaching in Portis, Allen taught 5th grade in Kensington, KS until he retired on May 22, 1998. Allen and Gladys both enjoyed going to the casinos together for some fun, Allen's favorite game to play was keno. Allen was also an avid Kansas City Chiefs Fan and enjoyed watching them win the super bowl.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters, Irene Meyer, Thadene Haas, and Lavern Meyer.
Allen is survived by his wife Gladys Lehmann of Smith Center; a son, Todd (Amy) Lehmann of Woodinville, WA; two sisters, Wilma (Denis) Sweat and June Homan, and two grandchildren, Triston and Alyssa Lehmann.
A celebration of Allen's life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at All Faiths Funeral Chapel, 113 S. Madison St., Smith Center, KS. There will not be a public visitation as cremation was chosen. Inurnment will take place in Fairview Cemetery, Smith Center, KS. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association and sent in care of the funeral chapel.
