Sharon Kay Herndon, 87, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Smith County Memorial Hospital, Smith Center, KS.
She was born on July 18, 1938, in Portis, KS, the daughter of David and Mabel Johnson. On March 2, 1958, Sharon married A. Jean Herndon at the United Methodist Church, Lebanon, KS.
Sharon volunteered for the Red Cross for over 50 years and received a certificate of appreciation on December 12, 2024. She was the secretary for Lebanon High School Alumni Association until her health prevented her from doing so. She enjoyed singing in the choir at the Methodist Church in Lebanon and attended several other churches during her lifetime. She also had a passion for sewing and traveling with Jean.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Sharon is survived by her husband A. Jean Herndon of Smith Center, and a sister, Marlene Fitzpatrick of Denver, CO, and a sister-in-law, Louan McCoy.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 1, 2026, at All Faiths Funeral Chapel, 113 S. Madison St., Smith Center, KS, with Tom Rice officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., with family present to greet friends. Burial will take place in Price Cemetery, Lebanon, KS. Memorials may be given to the Lebanon High School Alumni Association and/or Smith County Memorial Hospital and can be sent in care of the funeral chapel.
