Smith Center – Kendall L. Nichols Sr., 83, passed away Friday, July 12, 2024, at his home in Smith Center, KS.
Kendall was born on December 13, 1940, in Rooks County, KS, the son of Levi James and Mary Leona (McReynolds) Nichols. On June 5, 1960, he married Hazel Hays in Gaylord, KS, to this union they were blessed with three children, Kenny, Sandy and Toban.
He started married life in Denver and had worked for McDonald’s for a year and a half selling 19 cent hamburgers, he also worked for Mountain States Telephone & Telegraph Company as a frame man. Kendall then moved his family back to Kansas from Colorado to farm with his dad. Kendall was well known for being a farmer and rancher, cattle buyer and feed yard owner. He was a past member of the Elks Club of McCook, NE and the Gaylord Saddle Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Roger Nichols and a grandson Joshua Levi Nichols.
Kendall is survived by his wife Hazel Nichols of Smith Center; two sons, Kenny (Michelle) Nichols of Gaylord, Toban Nichols of Los Angels, CA; a daughter Sandy (Roger) Robinson of Wilson; three grandchildren, Jake (Tara) Nichols, Bret (Brogan) Nichols, Kaci (Dustin) Ziegler and six great grandchildren, Landon Robinson, Gunner Nichols, Karson Nichols, Lane Phillips, Willow Nichols and Tatum Nichols.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at All Faiths Funeral Chapel, 113 S. Madison St., Smith Center, KS, with Pastor Lance McDowell officiating. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., with the family present from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. to greet family and friends. The burial will take place in the Gaylord City Cemetery, Gaylord, KS. Memorials may be given to Redman Athletics and/or Smith County Volunteer Fire Department and can be sent in care of the funeral chapel.
