Sharlyn Faye (Schlatter) Long was born on April 7, 1941, to Albert and Ruth Schlatter, at the family home in Webster township, in Smith County. She was the youngest of three. Sharlyn was baptized on April 25, 1954. She attended the Chalk Mound rural school and then Lebanon High School, graduating with the class of 1959. She attended and graduated from Brown Mackie School of Business in January, 1960. Sharlyn returned to Smith Center and was employed at First National Bank for 2 years.
On June 4, 1961, Sharlyn was united in marriage to Warren J. Long, of which two sons were born, Terry Jay and Larry Joe. Sharlyn took great pride in being a homemaker, helping on the farm and raising her two boys.
She was a longtime member of Oak Creek Church until it disbanded. She then became a member of Lebanon Christian Church, where she attended until the time of her passing.
Sharlyn worked for SRS as a home health care provider, always receiving high praise for her organization and her compassion. She worked there until Warren's passing in 1993. Shortly after, she took over the care of her mother, Ruth, for many years.
Two of Sharlyn's greatest joys were being a homemaker and being a grandma to her four grandkids. All of the grandkids spent countless hours at Grandma's farm raising chickens, growing pumpkins, baking, sewing and canning, until she moved off of the farm in the winter of 2022. She leaves behind a lasting legacy of love and devotion to her friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Warren, her brothers, Jim and Ernie Schlatter, and a sister-in-law, Barbara Schlatter.
Surviving are sons Terry (Katrina) of Lebanon, Larry (Ann) of Downs, Sisters-in-law Marianne Schlatter of Smith Center and Carla Schlatter of Downs. Four grandchildren, Jacob (Julia) of Victoria, Ayden (Sierra) of Lebanon, Ashlyn of Olathe and Caroline of Downs, and countless nieces and nephews.
