Janet Kathleen (Zimmer) Schlatter, 68, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Parkview Care Center, Osborne, KS.
She was born December 7, 1947 the daughter of John Joseph "Joe" and Florence C. (Peters) Zimmer at the Mitchell County Hospital, Beloit, KS.
Janet received her education at St. John's Elementary and High School graduating in May of 1965. Janet was afforded the privilege of attending NCK Vo-Tech School during its initial year when she was a Senior. She also was involved in exchange classes with Beloit High School during her Junior and Senior years in Foods and Clothing classes respectively.
She was united in marriage on August 6, 1972 to William Gary Koch at Beloit, KS. To this union one son, Garon Lee, was born. Janet and Gary were divorced in 1976.
Janet was united in marriage on August 6, 1977 to Donald Lee Schlatter in Beloit, KS. Don and Janet were privileged to celebrate their 39th wedding anniversary on August 6, 2016. They enjoyed working side by side on the farm whether in the fields or with the cattle and hog operations. Don and Janet were each other's "Best Friend" and loved being together and experiencing life together whatever they were doing and wherever they were at.
Janet had a great love for God, country living and animals, she spent many hours caring for and being with them. While Janet was disabled she trusted that God was walking with her and gave her different black labs that were truly a source of love and joy for her. She called them her "company". Through them she received a visit from God every day.
One very special friend in Janet's life was Mona Hennes. Mona and Janet were friends from the time they hit first grade throughout life.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Laurence Reinert.
She is survived by her husband Don of Lebanon; son Garon Koch and wife Juvy of Norton; brother Gerald Zimmer and wife Terri of Beloit; two sisters, Marjorie Reinert of Downs, Alberta Cordel and husband Ed of Beloit; one grandson, Luke Koch of Norton; nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
A celebration of Janet's life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at All Faiths Funeral Chapel, Smith Center, KS, with Father Daryl Olmstead officiating. Visitation will be held Monday, October 10, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. until service time Tuesday, October 11th at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in Crystal Plains Cemetery, rural Smith County, KS. Memorials may be given to Mitchell County Hospice in care of the funeral Chapel. www.allfaithsfuneralchapel.com
