Elva Maydeen Hawkins, 93, passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2025, at Smith County Memorial Hospital, Smith Center, KS.
Maydeen was born on May 2, 1932, in Smith Center, KS, the daughter of George and Anna (Heinschel) Libby. Maydeen married Duane Hawkins on August 22, 1954, and they had 57 wonderful years of marriage together. Maydeen and Duane were blessed with a son Jerry who was born on July 2, 1957, and passed away on June 9, 1998.
Maydeen was a member of the First Christian Church, and Davenport Ladies Aid, both of Smith Center. Maydeen loved her nieces and nephews and was a second mother to most of them. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and helping Duane on the farm whenever she was needed. She would take her nieces and nephews to church when asked and if she thought they were not paying attention, she would quiz them on the drive back home.
She was preceded in death by her husband Duane, son Jerry, parents, two brothers, Verle and Dale Libby, sister Anna Kathryn Nelson, four nephews, Larry Baetz, Milo Shellito, Dale Libby Jr., George Libby and a niece Sharon Porter.
Maydeen is survived by daughter-in-law Kim Hawkins; six nephews, Russell (Karen) Baetz, Kevin Baetz and Kim Hawkins Baetz, Darin (Jessica) Hawkins, Ronald Libby, Terry Libby, William Libby; seven nieces, Sharlyn Shellito, Judy (Wayne) Hyman, Dianne Stevens, Marsha Libby, Sherry Resnos, Pam Nelson, Linda Nelson, and numerous great nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., at All Faiths Funeral Chapel, 113 S. Madison St., Smith Center, KS, with Pastor Lance McDowell officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. with family present to greet friends from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery, Smith Center, KS. Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church, Smith Center, KS, and sent in care of the funeral chapel.
