Smith Center - Wanda Rose "Pondie" Schmidt, 89, passed away Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at Smith County Memorial Hospital, Smith Center, KS.
Wanda was born on July 29, 1932, in Rantoul, KS, the daughter of Clarence E. and Irene (Ice) Mercer. On August 18, 1952, she married Gene Thomas Schmidt in Lorraine, KS, to this union they were blessed with four children, Steven, Kimba, David and Jay.
She was member of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, both of Smith Center. Wanda also loved volunteering at The Hardly Used Store and cooking countless harvest meals.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gene, two sisters, Fern Wiehe and Mary Lou Janzen and one brother, Wayne Mercer.
She is survived by her four children, Steven (Kelli) Schmidt of Smith Center, Kimba (Rob) Orr of Bennington, David (Maria) Schmidt of Cape Coral, FL, Jay (Shannon) Schmidt of Smith Center; a special friend, Eddie Hall of Smith Center; nine grandchildren, Kandis Attwood, Stuart (Amy) Schmidt, Courtney (Spencer Stone) Schmidt, Kaley (Nick) Rhodes, Kelsey (Bobby) Sindorf, Kasey Orr, Lucas Schmidt, Monroe (Shalynn) Schmidt, and Cierra (Zach) Wallgren; four step-grandchildren, Drew Winder, MacKenzie Winder, Jace (Whitney) Winder, and Hannah Radke; eleven great-grandchildren, Parker and Titus Atwood, Jaci and Thomas Jonathan Schmidt, Arrow Louise and Rainie Quinn Rhodes, Wilder Belle and Robert Dean Dupree Sindorf, Sawyer, Huxley and baby girl Schmidt (arriving Dec.), and Emberleigh Wallgren; five step great-grandchildren, Adalee, Jax, Laramie and Liberty Winder, and Remi Winder.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at United Methodist Church, 301 E. Kansas, Smith Center, KS, with Pastor Michael Ricci-Roberts officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 20, 2021, from 1:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. with family present to greet friends from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at All Faiths Funeral Chapel, 113 S. Madison St., Smith Center, KS. Burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery, Smith Center, KS. Memorials may be given to the church and sent in care of the funeral chapel.
