Phillipsburg - Rosie M. Younger, 93, passed away Friday, February 23, 2018 at Prairie Wind Villa, Phillipsburg, KS.
She was born January 10, 1925 in Ellis, KS, the youngest daughter of eight children to Raymond and Frances (Koppel) Steckline.
Rosie attended country school in Ellis county. She married Alex Befort in Victoria, KS on January 31, 1950. To this union, a daughter, Gloria Ann was born. Alex preceded her in death. Rosie then worked at St. Joseph Hospital as a dietary aide. On November 28, 1953, she married Alvin Younger in Hays welcoming his children, Harold Francis and Kathleen Ann. To make their family complete they had two sons, Lester Allen and Mark Anthony.
She had several hobbies throughout her life. She enjoyed needlework, embroidery, making quilt blocks, cooking and watching The Price Is Right. She also enjoyed polka dancing with Alvin and their friends, they would meet and go dancing on Saturdays and some Sundays as much as they possibly could. While raising her five children on the farm, taking care of the chickens was one of Rosie's favorite things to do. The family could expect a couple of chickens ready for dinner every day including feeding the hired hands in the summer months. During the holidays, she always prepared cabbage rolls as they were a family favorite. She took great pride in having the grandchildren come to her house to teach them to cook and color pictures. In her eyes the grandkids could do no wrong! No matter how busy she was she always found time to be with her family.
Rosie was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church in Esbon. She was an active member of the Altar Society. Her faith was very strong. When she was no longer able to attend, she would watch mass on TV with her rosary in hand.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Alex Befort on October 31, 1951 and Alvin Younger on March 30, 2004, a son, Harold Younger on November 6, 1979, five brothers, Jake, Joe, Henry, Carl and Tony Steckline, two sisters, Pauline Meier and twin sister Clara Steckline and Gloria's companion, LeRoy Wallace.
